Entrepreneurship and Individual Business Development

A graduate of the first degree in the specialty of Economics - Entrepreneurship and Individual Business Development obtains a comprehensive knowledge of the economics and is trained to perform the profession of economist – specialist in the field of financial, human, and material resources management. Graduate is well prepared to work in enterprises, institutions, organizations, and companies in the country and abroad. A graduate possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to lead an independent economic activity.

In addition, a graduate of the first degree of Economics at the University College of Social Sciences will learn:

  • principles in the field of social sciences,
  • basic knowledge about the human,
  • basic methods of collecting and processing data related to social sciences,
  • general rules about the creation and development of different forms of entrepreneurship.

Taking into account the latest scientific achievements in the field, this knowledge includes contents with principles of international experience of University College of Social Sciences’ partners (Open University, University of Calabria) and presents a good universal theoretical and methodological basics for studying in the second degree. It also prepares a graduate to start-up and run own business. Thus, the main emphasis of the training program is on the subject areas and specializations with direct participation of the teacher.

A graduate of the programme is able to:

  • interpret correctly social phenomena in the fields of science and scientific disciplines relevant to Economics,
  • use the basic methods of collecting and processing data, applicable to Economics,
  • analyze the causes and courses of specific processes and phenomena,
  • use the obtained knowledge in professional activity,
  • analyze the major social phenomenon,
  • use the language of specialization in accordance with the requirements established for the B2 level in the European System of Language Training.

A graduate of the first degree in the University College of Social Sciences:

  • understands the need for training and improvement of skills throughout the lifetime,
  • can communicate and work in a group, taking different roles in it,
  • can correctly identify the priorities to execute own or given tasks,
  • can correctly identify and solve problems connected with the performance of the job duties.

Graduate of the specialization Entrepreneurship and Individual Business Development:

  • can describe the specifics of planning and characterizing the business activity associated with the launch of the enterprise; knows the scheme design for the development of enterprises, process of its development, creation and design, in a way that is clear for the entrepreneur and for the institutions supporting the organization in its development, in accordance with the principles of business ethics, corporate social responsibility in relation to specific economic situations, such as finance, accounting or marketing, and determine strategies to solve moral problems;
  • characterizes and is able to apply and monitor the process of implementation of innovations at the enterprise, describes and applies the basic principles and methods of the process innovation control, discusses some methods helping to initiate and define the innovative projects;
  • characterizes the specifics of B2B and B2C markets, describes the decision-making mechanisms of consumers and buyers of manufactured goods, identifies factors affecting the behavior of buyers in the B2B and B2C markets;
  • demonstrates different types of local development strategies of the enterprise in the era of globalization; shows principles and criteria of estimation and choice of strategic alternatives, knowledge of methods and techniques used in the field of strategic management;
  • describes the specifics of the market functioning of the private equity funds and venture capital, as institution financing young innovative companies; may indicate the possibility of using this form of financial company development for the dynamically developing company, offering innovative solutions to offer services or products; knows the mechanisms of action of the funds and also allows to evaluate own proposal for a trader;
  • understands and describes the area of legal relations arising between the authorities and entrepreneurs, regulated in administration mode, defines tasks and the competence of the public administration bodies, as well as the decision-making mechanisms, understands the rights and obligations of entrepreneurs, the conditions of their implementation, as well as a form of legal protection for subjects of activity of public authorities and other entrepreneurs; knows the rules of creation and development of legal forms of entrepreneurship;
  • classifies the main burdens on the company related to non-tax expenses, tax and legal obligations, and their implications for the enterprise;
  • classifies and characterizes the valuation techniques of the company or brand; indicates and describes the capabilities of company’s value management by entrepreneur; evaluates and interprets the results of the enterprise’s valuation; characterizes the application of the material functions’ method in the enterprise;
  • describes the mechanisms of functioning of individual segments of the financial market, their instruments, and objectives of financial institutions; defines and classifies financial risks in business activities; indicates the performance of risk assessments using qualitative and quantitative methods; characterizes the risk management process in the enterprise, the types of risk measures, key measures of risk, and represents the models used for risk assessment; classifies the systems and tools used for management of the risks connected to foreign exchange market, percentage rates, and enterprise’s climate;
  • characterizes theoretical and practical aspects of evaluation of investments efficiency, implement by the company; describes the methods of estimation of investment projects, defines methods for risk assessment of investment projects; classifies the methods of assessment of financial investments;
  • knows the characteristics of the concept of cost accounting to implement the strategy of the enterprise; presents the connection between the system of costs accounting and the tasks of financial accounting and management; presents rules and procedures of information on the cost of the enterprise and their use for effective management of the enterprise;
  • represents creative techniques that can be applied in the enterprise; possesses basic knowledge of the core functional areas of a modern enterprise;
  • knows the essence and meaning of the enterprise’s shares; characterizes the stages of the marketing communication; defines the conditions for effective interaction of the company with the market; describes the means, the shares, and the conditions for their application;
  • knows negotiation techniques, rules of their conduct, methods of manipulation and psychological pressure; determines the ways to cope with difficult situations during the negotiations;
  • knows the rules of safety and hygiene of labor; possesses basic knowledge of individual business units with emphasis on the departments of accounting and financial crisis; understands the problems of the financial management and economic activities and the protection of intellectual property and patent rights.

The achievements of the Economics degree graduate, specialty Entrepreneurship and Individual Business Development, will be monitored through the Quarry Bureau, and the results of the analysis (conformity of the anticipated results of the training with labor market needs) will be implemented to the training programs.

INTERNSHIP

The students of the intramural and extramural studies undertake a 3-week internship con-sisting of 120 hours. The internship, according to the Curriculum, should be completed dur-ing the 4th semester. In case of an internship placement abroad, the period of internship can differ and the period of the internship placement can differ from the one proposed by the Curriculum. A student gains 5 ECTS points for the internship. The detailed aims, basis, and forms of the internship placement are included in the separate document.
