Economics of Small and Medium-size Enterprise

A graduate of bachelor’s degree in Economics, specialization: Economy of Small and Medium Enterprise obtains a comprehensive knowledge of economics and is trained to implement the profession of economist – specialist in the field of economic, financial, human and material resources management. Our graduates are well prepared to work in enterprises, institutions, organizations and companies in the country and abroad. Also they have necessary knowledge and skills for independent economic activity.

In addition, a graduate of the bachelor’s degree in Economics at the University College of Social Sciences will possess:

  • the basic general knowledge in the field of social sciences,
  • the basic knowledge about the human,
  • the knowledge about the basic methods of collecting and processing data related to social sciences,
  • the knowledge about the general rules for a start-up and development of different forms of entrepreneurships.

This knowledge includes contents, taking into account the latest scientific achievements with basis of international experience of University College of Social Sciences partners (Open University, University of Calabria) and presents a good universal theoretical and methodological basics for studying in the second degree. It also prepares a graduate to start-up and run own business. Thus, the main emphasis of the training program is on the subject areas and specializations with direct participation of the teacher.

A graduate of the bachelor’s degree in the University College of Social Sciences is able to:

  • interpret correctly the social phenomena in science and scientific disciplines applicable to Economics,
  • use the basic methods of collecting and processing data, applicable to Economics,
  • analyze the causes and course specific processes and phenomena,
  • use the obtained knowledge in professional activity,
  • analyze the major social phenomenon,
  • use the language of specialization in accordance with the requirements established for the B2 level in the European System of Language Learning.

The graduate of the specialization: Economics of Small and Medium Enterprise

  • possesses knowledge about the different types and forms of financing business development and is able to apply this knowledge;
  • understands the peculiarities of the virtual enterprise functioning; classifies the threats and errors of the enterprise’s politics in e-business; knows the instruments of the internet marketing and the types of e-business payments;
  • knows and is able to apply the procedures for the innovative changes influencing the affectivity of the enterprise functioning;
  • possesses the theoretical and practical knowledge of the project management fundamentals, necessary for participation in a team-project or for management of individual projects (subprojects);
  • knows and is able to apply different strategies of the local business development under the conditions of globalization; understands the basis of the formation and evaluation of the strategic alternatives; passes on the knowledge about the different methods and techniques connected to the strategic management;
  • knows the prediction techniques and methods of  changes’ prediction at the enterprise and on financial markets; knows the basis of probability theory and statistics analysis combined with the application of optimization methods;
  • understands the rights and duties of the entrepreneurs, the conditions of their realization, and the forms of legal protection of a person against the administrative organs and other entrepreneurs; knows the basis of launching and development of the individual entrepreneurship’s legal entities;
  • knows the essentials of audits at the enterprise; knows the methods of controlling the operations;
  • identifies the operational programmes and the directions of the EU resource usage in Poland; characterizes the instruments and the essence of the financial planning based on the EU funds; describes the functioning methods of different derivatives; identifies the main types of risks connected to the derivatives’ use; knows the working methods of the different types of derivatives;
  • knows and is able to use the methods of gate pricing and the accounting liquidity of the enterprises; knows the conditions of state price regulation and the state regulation of the market;
  • knows the Health and Safety at Work principles; possesses the basic knowledge in scope of chosen business areas with a detailed consideration of the bursary and financial department functioning;  knows the problems connected to the financial management and business activity, the copyright protection, and the patent law.

The future of the Economics of Small and Medium Enterprise course graduate will be monitored by the Careers Service and the results (conducted accordance analysis of the assumed educational effects to the market needs) will be adapted to the programme of studies.

INTERNSHIP

The students of the intramural and extramural studies undertake a 3-week internship con-sisting of 120 hours. The internship, according to the Curriculum, should be completed dur-ing the 4th semester. In case of an internship placement abroad, the period of internship can differ and the period of the internship placement can differ from the one proposed by the Curriculum. A student gains 5 ECTS points for the internship. The detailed aims, basis, and forms of the internship placement are included in the separate document.
